Small Hole EDM Drilling or sometime referred to as Fast Hole EDM or "Hole Popping" is an excellent method to drill holes in conductive materials and in many cases it is the only option. Regardless of metal type or hardness, precision holes can be EDM drilled up to 70% faster than conventional methods. With Unified Tool's CNC EDM Drilling capabilities, holes from .004" to .118" diameter can be drilled to depths up to 100 times the electrode diameter.
Shown above is a .007" hole that was EDM drilled through a 5/8" thick carbide bushing .... concentricity with respect to the outside diameter is held from top to bottom within .001"
With Unified Tool's CNC EDM drilling capabilities, a total of 430 micro holes (.009" dia.) were EDM drilled in less than 1 hour.
